Training Officer
Hi my name is Dave Shaw and I am the Training Officer for Selby Aquanauts

I first got the bug for diving when I did a Try Dive on Holiday in Lanzarote. Since then I haven’t looked back, completing various diving courses, I now currently hold an SAA Club Instructor Qualification which allows me to help train students, so they can also find the magic of the underwater world that I have found.
I liaise with the Clubs Diving Officer and Instructors regarding diver training. My main duties are to organise practical and theory training for new and current members, to ensuring the SAA standards of training are achieved. I also report to the Diving Officer the progress made by the candidates.
If you are new to diving or just upgrading your current qualification, we will ensure that you receive all the help you need to achieve your goal. Our main aim is to make training enjoyable and at a pace suitable for the student.
The Clubs Open Water Instructors and I will give you a step by step guide through all the training sessions you will need, if you feel uneasy or unsure about anything we will slowly but surely help you in everyway we can to make sure it’s an enjoyable experience.
Please Dive Safely at all times, but remember it can be fun also.
Club Instructors
Mark Dyer is a club OWI.

I started as a holiday diver, as a lot of people do. Inspired by the underwater programmes on TV. “When I was a lad”.
I did my first qualifications on holiday with PADI, I enjoyed it so much that I joined Selby aquanauts to do more diving throughout the year, not just holidays.
When the club joined the SAA I crossed over as a dive leader and am currently working to achieve a dive supervisor level hoping to finish this winter.
This year I and a few other members have been training to become Open water instructors and have really enjoyed it. I also provide at cost price to members, if you ask nicely, dry suit repairs and diving weights"
